“God thunders wondrously with his voice; He does great things that we cannot comprehend. For He says to the snow , “fall to the earth,” and the torrential rains, his mighty torrential rains, serve as His sign to all mankind, so that men may know His work.” – Job 37:5-7
“For the Lord is a great God, a great King above all gods. The depths of the earth are in His hand, and the mountain peaks are His. The sea is His; He made it. His hands formed the dry land.” – Psalms 95:3-5
With everything going on worldwide with COVID-19, it is easy to settle into panic, anxiety, fear and stress. In the midst of it all however, God remains absolutely sovereign. Seasons can change, times change and situations evolve but our God remains the same.
In times of crisis, we have two choices:
-fix our eyes on the situation and obsess over it, trying to determine how we can control it, or
-fix our eyes and thoughts on the Lord Jesus.
The Lord has promised to care for us. Caring for us does not mean that we would live a pain-free or trouble-free life. In fact, before He left His disciples, Jesus warned them “I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world.” (John 16:33)
When times of uncertainty hit, fixing our eyes on the Lord will:
- Remind us that He is God, not us. He is in control not us.
- Strengthen our faith if we choose to hold on to Him, seek His face and pray.
- Cause us to cling to the Father. Anything that draws us to the foot of the cross is good.
- Hopefully wake up our nation starting with us. We need a spiritual awakening, a revival that will spread like wildfire,perhaps this could be the beginning?
- Put things into proper perspective. Ask yourself: what really matters in this world? What are my priorities? How I have misplaced my affections and my time? Have I put work ahead of my family? Ambition, career, money or things ahead of people?
- Remind us that God supplies our needs, not us.
We may be the ones writing and signing the cheques each month to pay the bills yet God is the one who enables us to work and provides for us. As you consider the pandemic going on, won’t you consider fixing your eyes on Jesus.
Surely, you may wonder why God is allowing this entire situation. Truth be told, I do not know but I do know that my part is not to question all his moves even when things get tough and I do not understand. I’ve learned that in all situations, God has a purpose and multiple lessons for His children.
Trust, obey and have faith-that is the mandate we’ve been given.
Trust, obey and have faith!
As Christians, we are to let the world know that Jesus is our great Hope, has overcome and even COVID-19 is not above Him.
Each day, we are nearer to the Lord’s second and final coming. Let us take this time as an opportunity to wake up, search ourselves, repent, draw near to God, grow in faith and share the eternal hope we have in Jesus with the rest of the world. But what happens when even Christians begin to fear as much as unbelievers? Well, this may then be the perfect time to cling to the Father. We are human too and fear is real.Thanks be to God, we have a High Priest who is well acquainted with our weaknesses and fear so best to go to but the Savior ? This is the time to call upon His Name and perhaps this may be the opportunity you need to rediscover your first love…
We can choose to sink in despair and fear or we can put on the full armour of God including the shield of faith “with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one” (Ephesians 6:16). This is a time when we need to fight fear with faith by taking hold of the promises of God and letting them sink deeply into our hearts, mind and soul.
My assurance is to be built upon God’s assurance to me. God says, “I will never leave you,” so that then I “may boldly say, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not fear’ ” (Hebrews 13:5-6). In other words, I will not be obsessed with apprehension. This does not mean that I will not be tempted to fear, but I will remember God’s words of assurance. I will be full of courage, like a child who strives to reach the standard his father has set for him. The faith of many people begins to falter when apprehensions enter their thinking, and they forget the meaning of God’s assurance— they forget to take a deep spiritual breath. The only way to remove the fear from our lives is to listen to God’s assurance to us.- Oswald Chambers, My Utmost For His Highest
COVID-19 may bring interruptions to our daily lives, fear and anxiety but God promises us peace that surpasses all understanding. Only with God, we can have peace in the midst of chaos. There may be a storm out there but as long as we remain steadfast in the boat with Jesus, we have nothing to fear.
When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze. – Isaiah 43:2
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.- John 14:27
