“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given and the government shall be upon his shoulders: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.” – Isaiah 9:6 KJV
Oh how I love this time of year! The city is bright with different colors, trees sparkle, children are excited and people carry a smile and cheer everywhere they go. It’s not so much the gifts that I like but the reminder to be grateful to God for His Loving kindness towards us… the reminder that Our Savior was born. It may not be the time of Jesus’ actual birth, truth is we don’t know but I’ll take any and every opportunity to celebrate him and blessing us with his presence on earth thousands of years ago. Jesus left his throne above to take the form of a man, coming as a child, perfect from the very beginning. I can only imagine how beautiful he was. So much was resting on these little shoulders, so much for this child who would become one day the man on the cross. Oh did Mary know the fate of her new born baby? Most likely not, but she knew he would be a great Wonderful man, filled with the Father’s Spirit, glowing with His love and destined for greatness. He would be the Son of the Most High (Luke 1:32-33)!
On a beautiful and chilly night, the greatest gift of God to humanity was born. Hope for you and I came forth wrapped in swaddling clothes, shining with grace, and filling the earth with his light and truth: our promised savior was born. Oh how I wish I could have joined the multitude of angels as they cried and praised God saying “Glory to God in the Highest, and on earth! “ (Luke 2:14)
As you celebrate this holiday season and exchange gifts with those you love and those you don’t know, take time to praise and thank God for the greatest gift of all, your Jesus, my Jesus. Be kind to others by sharing this gift with them, letting Him shine his light through you and giving love to all around. And remember, it’s not the gifts in the box with the bow that matter, it’s the Greatest Gift of all that came for you, me and the world. Jesus is indeed the greatest gift you can give this holiday season!
Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, oh how I praise you Father for the greatest gift you have ever given me and humanity! This gift I did not deserve yet you gave it freely, without hesitation and with a willing heart. I thank you for the gift of Jesus that brought me grace. Glory to you Lord! I praise you with all of my heart. I love you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
